In the minds of most ( I am not saying all), stay at home moms have days filled with Soap Operas, naps and shopping. While in a perfect world we would love that to be a reality...it most definitely is not!
Here is a typical day in my shoes:
-Wake up which typically varies between 6 am and 7:30, depending on the baby schedule that day..
-Go to the washroom and brush your teeth (if you are lucky enough to be able to get this done without the baby crying to be picked up and waking the whole house)
- Put a bottle on and change the baby.
- Give baby his bottle while enduring a Baby Einstein DVD...since of course he must watch his show while he drinks.
- Make a pot of coffee...( and be lucky enough to get one cup down) before baby is bored of playing and is ready for his breakfast.
- Prepare a bowl of oatmeal and baby puree fruit.
-Feed baby his breakfast ( while wearing majority of it on your pajamas from the occasional razzberry..)
-Entertain baby with bizzare sounds, actions and songs
- Time for nap #1 ( ahh mommy can relax...NOT)
- Sterilize bottles, make formula and clear up any dishes left from breakfast
-Put a load of laundry on
-Make beds and tidy bedrooms
-Baby is awake!
-Get baby changed and dressed
-Playtime with baby (which mainly consists of chasing after a newly mobile baby and preventing him from all the dangerous things he of course wants to play with)
-Warm lunchtime bottle
-Another bout of kids shows to entertain him while he drinks
-Time for load of laundry #2
-Time to make lunch
-Baby is ready for his lunch
-Prepare baby's lunch
-Entertain once again with weird noises songs and 80 games of peek-a-boo
-Fold laundry and put away
-Nap #2 ( rest for momma? Not so fast)
-Do some dusting, change sheets or clean the bathroom or kitchen, do dishes from lunchtime
-Laundry load #3
-Baby is awake
-Go for a walk (weather permitting)
-Make phone calls ( dr. app, relatives, friends)
-Time for baby's supper time bottle
-Time to think of what to make for supper (which usually means preparing 2 different meals since we have some picky eaters in the house...)
- Nap # 3 (ok finally some time for mom...oh wait...more to do..)
-Start preparing supper, fold and put away more laundry, empty dishwasher....wash floors.
-Dinner is ready and if I am lucky to get 2 mouthfuls before baby is awake im lucky
-Baby is awake, another diaper change and some more entertainment
-Try to finish my now cold dinner as fast as possible
-Time for baby supper
-Do dishes quickly since baby is upset and no longer wants to sit in his high chair...
-Playtime
-Bath time for baby (usually includes getting drenched since my little guy has discovered splashing!)
-Pajamas for baby and mom needs to get changed and dried off as well.
-Bedtime bottle and book for baby
-Bedtime for bay!
-Ahh Finally some free time for mommy! zzzzzzzz......maybe I'll just go to bed...
-Repeat 7 days a week!!!
This list doesnt include the odd chance we have to take a shower and maybe if we are lucky to shave one leg....also the occasional pee through a diaper scenario, poop up the back scenario...cleaning up baby puke....
And the chances we do have to get out and go shopping...that's a whole other blog...That's no day at the beach either!
So ladies and gents..when you see a mom who stays at home all day with her kids, just remember this post...remember that our job is 24-7 we dont get sick days or lunch breaks or vacation days...but we do get unconditional love from our kids! And that makes it all worth it!!!
